I am one of those people who can feel her own vibration. What is this vibration I speak of? According to dictionary.com, it’s one of two things. Actual shaking, like that from an earthquake, or a person’s emotional state. What I am speaking of is the latter.

vi·bra·tion/vīˈbrāSH(ə)n/noun

  1. an instance of vibrating.”powerful vibrations from an earthquake”synonyms:quiver, quivering, shake, shaking, shaking movement, quaver, quavering, quake, quaking, tremble, trembling, tremor, judder, shiver, shivering, shudder, shuddering; More
    • PHYSICS an oscillation of the parts of a fluid or an elastic solid whose equilibrium has been disturbed, or of an electromagnetic wave.
    • INFORMAL a person’s emotional state, the atmosphere of a place, or the associations of an object, as communicated to and felt by others.

To me, it’s your mood, your feelings, your overall well-being. It can also be the mood of a person, place, or thing. Have you ever been somewhere and the vibe was or wasn’t very inviting? Vibe…short for vibration. This place has a low-key vibe. Or, this place makes me feel happy. It has a great vibe! People have vibes, too. I’ve run into more than one person in this life who I have had an immediate aversion to upon meeting. I have also met people that I knew right away we’d be friends for life. If none of this sounds familiar, how about the KonMari method from Marie Kondo? She is basically helping you determine if you should keep something based on the fact of whether it brings you joy or not. If it brings you joy….guess what? It probably has a higher vibration. Give it shot and be sure to let me know your thoughts.

One of my favorite ways to increase my vibration (besides riding the tea cups at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom) is to put on some music, turn it up, and dance. You heard me….dance. If you’ve heard of Hilary Rushford from Dean Street Society, you may know she starts every class with a dance party. Her vibration is super-high!

In the mornings on the way to work, my vibration is much higher upon arrival if I have listened to music rather than the news. Why? Well, music has it’s own vibration…just ask the Beach Boys. And the vibration of music can raise your vibration. And that is going to put you in a good mood. Want a double shot? Sing along. Out Loud. Put on that concert in your car. Don’t be shy. Find a song that you love and DO IT!

What shall we sing this morning??

When I work from home on Tuesdays and Fridays, after my morning meetings, I crank up the Sirius XM on Alexa in my home office. And guess what? I dance. I get up out of my chair and dance. There’s not a lot of space, but enough to shake my booty until I feel like I could rule the world. I know what you’re thinking….why don’t you sing along? Good idea…because I do. It’s not great, but I do sing — loud and proud.

So, what are you waiting for? You need more encouragement? A playlist? The music that sets my vibration on fire ranges from Shakedown Street by the Grateful Dead to You Should Be Dancing by the Bee Gees. I am an equal opportunity dancer. I love most music of all genres and if the beat is good, you’ll see me moving. So, get out there and pick up your own Good Vibrations!
