Creating Art Through Energy

Listening Before the Brush Touches the Canvas

Lately, my creative process has been less about deciding what to paint and more about listening to how the energy wants to move.

When I create through energy, I’m not starting with a finished image in mind. I’m paying attention to sensation—emotion, memory, rhythm, and what feels alive in my body. The artwork becomes a response rather than a plan.

This week, that energy has been unmistakably water.

Water has a way of carrying emotion without words. It holds movement, reflection, depth, and release all at once. As I’ve been working in the studio, images of bubbles, currents, and sea life keep surfacing—sometimes softly, sometimes insistently. The paint itself seems to want to flow, layer, and breathe.

Water as an Energetic Language

Water is deeply connected to feeling and intuition. It doesn’t rush. It doesn’t force. It adapts.

When I tune into water energy while creating, I notice my process slows down. My brushstrokes soften. I’m less concerned with precision and more interested in how the piece feels as it unfolds. There’s a sense of trust involved—trust that the image will reveal itself when it’s ready.

That’s where the bubbles come in.

Bubbles feel like small moments of awareness rising to the surface. They’re playful and temporary, yet full of light. In these new pieces, bubbles act as pauses—little breaths within the movement of the work.

Following the Nudge: Whales or Reef Creatures?

As I sit with these pieces, I feel pulled in two directions: toward the vastness of whales and toward the intricate beauty of reef creatures.

Whales carry a slow, ancient energy. They feel like deep knowing, long journeys, and communication that happens beneath the surface. Reef creatures, on the other hand, feel vibrant and immediate—full of color, diversity, and tiny ecosystems working in harmony.

Instead of choosing one over the other, I’m letting the energy lead.

Sometimes art doesn’t ask us to decide—it asks us to notice. One piece may call for the stillness and scale of a whale, while another might want the playful complexity of a reef. Both energies exist in water. Both are valid expressions of it.  Water is energy and energy is movement.

Letting Energy Be the Guide

Creating art through energy means releasing the need to control the outcome. It means allowing curiosity, emotion, and intuition to guide the process. The artwork becomes a collaboration between the artist and something less visible—but deeply felt.

As I continue working on these pieces, I’m trusting that they’ll tell me what they want to be.

For now, I’m listening. And painting. And letting the water lead.

I am now offering my expertise, my experience, my guidance to help others with their own awakening and creativity. Currently one-on-one, but as my guides would have it, they think I should also offer this in a group setting. So, stay tuned for that and let me know if this is something you’d like as well.
