Fun Fact Friday – I’ve Got the Power

There’s no fun fact this week, just wind and rain.  Yet, this tropical storm that blew through here yesterday cleaned the air and made way for fall.  That’s right, it’s 54 degrees outside right now.  It’s glorious, crisp, and inviting.

I’ve mentioned riding out storms, avoiding storms, etc., before   here, but I only noticed the pouring rain yesterday.  My office is in a giant distribution center, so I heard the hard rain hit the roof all day, but had no idea of the destruction it was causing.  Trees down, houses hit, roads blocked, and even worse….power outage.

When we left work, power was restored to all the lights we needed to get home, but there was only one entrance open into our neighborhood.  We made it.  Got the dogs fed and settled and ventured out for dinner.  We found Uncle Maddio’s open and not too packed.  It was the MOST packed I had ever seen it.  By the time we left at 7, there was a line out the door.  I’m thinking, every person without power was scrounging for a place to eat and a place with power.

MARKET SQUARE PRINT

It’s International Home Furnishings Market here in High Point.  That means we have double the amount of people in and around the city this weekend and they were all planning on eating out.  Can you imagine?  I cannot.  I feel for our visitors.  No one comes to High Point thinking we will have issues with any kind of tropical weather.

While the city has restored the power in my neighborhood, I know a few that haven’t gotten their power back.  I am grateful that my city worked all night to restore my power.  When I woke up to the sound of the fan running, I was thrilled.  I could curl up under the covers and rest easy.

Have a great Market, everyone!  See you on the other side!
